This well-executed ash burl ladle features  a  bowl that gracefully flows upwards to a handle that provides a beaded perch upon which a tiny owl sits.
                
 
                The owl’s head is  turned backwards, giving the piece an unusal sense of mystery and the watchfulness of the natural world. It is also a testament to the carver's keen observational sense of that world. 
                
              The entire piece feels like an organic extension of the forest itself.
